The Salley Family

Our Testimonies:

LaMar:

I did not grow up in a Christian home but was saved in the third grade as a result of the church bus ministry. I knew God wanted me in full time Christian service; however, as I got older, I began to seek after my dream to become a jet pilot in the Air Force. When my youth leaders announced a missions trip to Costa Rica, I decided to go. During that week, God told me that was the place that He wanted me to be. The more I tried not to listen to God, the more He spoke to me. One night I knelt beside my bed telling God, “I’ll serve you but only after I’ve done what I want to do with my life.” At a revival meeting in our church, I went forward and gave my life to full time Christian service. I felt as if a 2 ton burden fell of my back. The very next day, I received a letter from the Air Force informing me that I was awarded a full 3 year scholarship and would need to take ROTC and join the Air Force after college. Receiving the letter had been a long time goal; now it meant nothing to me. God had replaced my desires with His.A few years later, I met my wife at Liberty University and God has confirmed our missionary call to Costa Rica.

Joanna:

Although I grew up in a loving Christian family it wasn’t until I was 17 that I accepted Christ as my personal Lord and Savior. I got saved when I was young and I was baptized but there was no evidence that Christ was in my life. As a teenager, I felt such a void in my life that I tried to fill it with friends, drinking, smoking, anything to stop me from feeling so alone. I never really understood that I needed a personal relationship with Christ. It was on a missions trip to Europe that I realized that I needed to get straight with God and I received Him not just as Savior but as Lord as well.
